Most white collar jobs involve creating presentations. And this can be a time-consuming, laborious process. Presentations include data points, and ensuring that these data points remain accurate and up to date is a challenging task in its own right. Employees report spending nearly four hours each day searching for info; over 31% of those surveyed said the frustration of being unable to find information made them feel burned out. To help ease the burden — at least on the…

Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a rising trend of cybercriminals combining voice phishing (vishing) with OTP (One-Time Password) grabber services to enhance their malicious activities, according to a report from CloudSEK, a cybersecurity firm. Vishing involves manipulating individuals into disclosing sensitive information over the phone. The human interaction in vishing attacks adds a convincing element, making victims more likely to trust the caller. Attackers employ sophisticated techniques, such as interactive voice response (IVR) systems, authentic voice recordings, or even real-time calls that appear to be from a trusted company. Victims are skillfully manipulated into revealing their one-time passwords, usually delivered via…

The UK government has officially confirmed it will piggyback on a transatlantic data transfer deal between the European Union and the US by bolting on an extension which it’s dubbed the “UK-US data bridge”. Back in June the UK and US reached an agreement in principle over this arrangement. Today the UK government confirmed that secretary of state, Michelle Donelan, has moved forward with the deal — which is intended to grease digital commerce by allowing for UK citizens’ information to be exported to the US under an assurance of adequate levels of protection for people’s information, in line with the…

Low-code and no-code development platforms have gained significant traction recently, and more so with the rise of artificial intelligence in 2023. This technology promises to democratize application development and empower “citizen developers.” If it sounds familiar, we tried this back in the ‘70s with Cobol and many times after that. Executives won’t write code no matter how easy it is. Low-code and no-code platforms provide visual interfaces and prebuilt components to simplify the coding process so people with minimal coding experience can create applications quickly. Although these platforms offer advantages, they also introduce trade-offs that must be carefully considered within an exemplary cloud…

David Heinemeier Hansson, CTO of SaaS project management outfit 37Signals, has posted an update on the cloud repatriation project he’s led, writing that it’s already saved the company $1 million. Hansson has previously revealed that his company spent $3.2 million a year on cloud computing, most of it at Amazon Web Services. His repatriation plan called for the company to spend $600,000 on eight meaty servers that each pack 256 virtual CPUs, and have them hosted at an outfit called Deft. That plan was projected to save $7 million over five years. In his Saturday post, Hansson wrote he now thinks he can find…
